A Republican plan to cut off funding for the Affordable Care Act isn't very popular with the American people.
A recent CBS News poll found that 55 percent disapproved of the idea, and only 35 percent approved. The results were split along party lines. In all, 57 percent of Republicans supported defunding the reforms. Not surprisingly, 82 percent of Democrats disagreed with the plan to cut funding.
House Speaker John Boehner told conservative radio host Laura Ingraham Monday that Republicans could use a "continuing resolution" funding the government for the rest of the fiscal year to stop the implementation of health care reform.
"I expect that there will be a lot of amendments, and there's been a lot of discussion about that particular amendment," he said.
"We're going to do everything that we can in this bill to make sure there's no money in Obamacare," Boehner said. "Within the rules of debate, over a bill like this, we're going to do everything we can to make sure there's no money."
Independent New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has predicted that the GOP will be successful in cutting funding for the law.
"I think the Republicans will unfund it," he was recently seen telling the members of a mourning family.
"Having said that, you still need some solutions. And saying 'no' is not a solution. So I'm not -- you know, some stuff I don't like, but being against everything is mashugana as well," Bloomberg added.
The poll showed that 44 percent of Americans were unsure of what the impact of the health care law will be even if it's funded. Among Republicans, 23 percent said the law will make things worse, while 21 percent of Democrats predicted it would make the system better.
The CBS News survey also found that respondents were evenly split on who to trust about cutting the deficit. In all, 42 percent trusted Obama. The same number trusted the Republicans in Congress.
