O’Reilly Goes After Bachmann For Intransigence On Debt Ceiling, Mocks Her ‘Titanium Spine’

By Alex Seitz-Wald/Think Progress

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) appeared on Fox News host Bill O’Reilly’s show last night to tout heropposition to raising the debt ceiling under any any circumstance. O’Reilly, who has become comparatively reasonable as the GOP becomes increasingly unreasonable, acknowledged that failing to raise the debt limit would be catastrophic for the economy, and repeatedly pressed Bachmann to explain her blind opposition to doing so.
Bachmann refused to directly address any of O’Reilly’s tough questions, prompting the visibly frustrated conservative host to role his eyes, audibly sigh, and finally laugh in Bachmann’s face when she invoked her “titanium spine.” Noting that the Republican leadership understands the need to raise the debt limit, O’Reilly chided Bachmann, saying, “You are the renegade here.”
O’Reilly also devoted the “Talking Points” monologue section of the show to laying out the case for raising the debt ceiling, and singled out Bachmann for criticism for refusing to understand or accept the reality of the debt ceiling. Watch a compilation:
If even Bill O’Reilly thinks your position is so extreme that he feels the need to mock you on national TV, you’ve probably gone too far.
