DeVos whines about negative can he explain this?
More Mudslinging From DeVos
Republicans Throw another Daily Distortion about Governor Granholm’s Record
LANSING – Today Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer criticized Republican gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos’ campaign’s continuous negative attacks and outright lies about Governor Jennifer M. Granholm’s record. Monday at a press conference on behalf of DeVos, Michigan Republican Party Chair Saul Anuzis and several Republican State Senators once again wrongly attacked the Governor for the length of Department of Environmental Quality's (DEQ) permitting process. The Granholm administration has drastically improved the DEQ’s permitting process by reducing the amount of time it takes to get a permit by 66%.
“DeVos’ cronies are once again throwing mud and daily distorting the Governor’s record. Governor Granholm’s DEQ is much better than Republican Governor Engler. It took the Engler Administration 170 days on average to issue a permit, while it now only takes 55 days because of the Granholm Administration reforms,” Brewer said. “Dick DeVos’ latest wild accusation is completely false. Throughout the campaign, DeVos has been short on facts and long on negative attacks.”
According to DEQ records, under the previous Administration, the average time for processing air permits was roughly 170 calendar days. This is critical to note because a company cannot begin construction of a facility without an air permit, making the timing extremely important. In the first quarter of 2006, under the new permitting system, the DEQ issued 125 permits and averaged 55 calendar days (a reduction of 66%). This has all been accomplished without compromising protections for human health and the environment.
Other examples of DeVos and his campaign mudslinging and fabricating the truth include:
Dick DeVos said his campaign would not use negative attacks. This is false. The DeVos campaign was the first to use negative television ads. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060728/OPINION01/607280336/1068/OPINION
The DeVos Campaign has pulled two campaign television ads due to misleading information. The Detroit Free Press and the Lansing State Journal criticized the DeVos campaign’s use of newspaper articles that appeared in the ad “Newspapers” and had a version of the ad pulled from the air. “The Grand Turnaround” was pulled from the air shortly after a MDP press release demonstrating that it was misleading. Even Rich DeVos, Dick DeVos’ father and founder of Amway, said that particular ad used “political license.”
The Associated Press has shown that DeVos’ job numbers are flat-out wrong because they use old statistics to create more alarm amongst voters.
Anuzis used radio ads last year to attack Governor Granholm.
DeVos supporter Adolph Mongo and Voice the Vote newspaper ad that used images of Adolf Hitler and a swastika in criticizing Democratic leaders, including Presidents Clinton, Carter, Johnson, Roosevelt and Governor Granholm. http://www.michigandems.com/071706prs.html
“DeVos and his cronies have shown that they are willing to say anything to get DeVos elected,” said Brewer. “The media and the people need to hold DeVos accountable and let them know that Michigan does not accept their dubious campaign tactics.”
