MSNBC host Martin Bashir grilled Koch Industries general counsel Mark Holden on Thursday over the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
Bashir noted that Koch Industries was a member of ALEC, a controversial organization that drafts model legislation for state lawmakers. The organization has supported so-called “Stand Your Ground” laws, which have been tied to the killing of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.
But Holden quickly turned the tables, stating that MSNBC’s parent companies, General Electric and Comcast, were members of ALEC as well. Holden claimed that Koch Industries was only a member of ALEC because they advanced their economic interests.
“I can tell you our involvement in ALEC is limited to economic freedom,” he said.
Later in the tense nearly 15-minute long interview, Holden implied he was the victim of an ambush interview.
“This wasn’t going to be the topic today, we are supposed to be talking about the attacks launched on us concerning the Trayvon Martin tragedy” he complained.
