In a rather blunt analysis of rocker Ted Nugent’s reaction to the State of the Union address, MSNBC host Martin Bashir said Wednesday that the well known gun enthusiast “appears to have some kind of obsession with fecal matter.”
The characterization was in part a reaction to Nugent’s assertion that Rep. Jim Langevin (D-RI) has “shit for brains.” Nugent elaborated on that point during an interview Wednesday with NBC’s Luke Russert, claiming Langevin’s criticism of his bombastic rhetoric about gun controlimplied that he has “genuine fecal matter” inside his skull.
During the odd interview with Russert, in which Nugent grabbed the reporter’s face and insisted he apologize for “being a lying bastard,” the rocker also mocked media coverage of his own explanation of how he dodged the draft during the Vietnam war, saying, “I actually shit my pants to get out of this interview!”
Bashir was not amused. “Mr. Nugent appears to have some kind of obsession with fecal matter,” he said to The Washington Post‘s Jonathan Capehart. “Is this, do you think, a personal fetish or a personal problem?”
“Oh lord, Martin,” Capehart replied. “It’s a personal problem.”
